Kirklees Schools String Orchestra
Conducted by Ralph Barker, Kirklees Schools String Orchestra is the String Section of Kirklees Youth Symphony Orchestra operating as an independant string ensemble.
The group has developed a recognition throughout the country, largely due to its phenomenal success at the National Festival of Music for Youth. (17 successive years of invitation to the Festival!)
Success has also been achieved on a regular basis at the Mrs Sunderland Music Festival.
In recent years, many students have composed works for String Orchestra which the ensemble has incorporated into its repertoire, often resulting in much acclaim.
Students enjoy a balance of repertoire which helps extend musical and technical development, involving an increased awareness of musical styles.Members enjoy the same experience of foreign tours as are on offer to players of KYSO.
KSSO rehearse weekly (during term time) on Wednesdays 6.15 - 7.30 at Moldgreen Junior School
