Kirklees Youth Jazz Orchestra
The Kirklees Youth Jazz Orchestra was set up at the start of last academic year in response to the increasing demand within Kirklees for a top quality jazz ensemble that would build upon the recent success of the big bands and other jazz groups in the music centres and schools across Kirklees.
They enjoy performing a wide range of Big Band music, from Latin and rock jazz to classic swing and vocal charts. They are a young jazz ensemble who rehearse once a week in Huddersfield. The Jazz Orchestra has attracted some of the top young jazz musicians from throughout Kirklees and recently won two of the six available awards at the Great Northern Big Band Festival, against some very stiff competition. They performed at last year's National Festival of Music for Youth in Birmingham, receiving excellent feedback from the mentors, and have been invited to particpate agin in this year's festival.
KYJO rehearse at Moldgreen Community Primary School on Monday evenings from 19.00-20.30 during term.
If you are interested in joining the group or booking a performance, please contact Jamie O'Brien at the Kirklees Music School office.
