Melody Tots

Melody Tots offers the opportunity to sing nursery rhymes and action songs in a lively and fun -filled weekly session.

Simple percussion instruments are played to accompany a wide variety of songs and musical games. Hoops, hankies, scarves and finger puppets are used in movement, pulse and rhythm activities. These sessions lay the foundations for future musical learning and most of our past pupils have gone on to play a variety of instruments, including :- cornet, cello, violin, clarinet, guitar, piano, keyboard, recorder, oboe and drum kit ; and are now playing in Junior Ensembles throughout KMS Music Centres.

Other benefits include the development of social skills, group participation, language, auditory, co-ordination and concentration.

The sessions are designed for children from the age of 2 to 5 years old and are tailored to fit the age range/composition of the group. Parents/grandparents accompany their child and are encouraged to join in the activities.

SESSIONS ARE HELD EVERY SATURDAY DURING TERM TIME AT 9.30-10.15AM AT OUR HOLME VALLEY MUSIC CENTRE

Here are some of the views of current participants:-

“My 23 month old grand –daughter joins in the group activities. She loves marching , singing If You’re Happy and You Know It and cuddling Melody Bear. Her older brother loves to take home the weekly colouring sheet which features one of the songs from the session.” ( Pupil's Grandma)

“Our son absolutely loves Melody Tots and looks forward to it all week. All four of my children have participated in Melody Tots, with the three older ones now successfully playing the guitar, cornet and piano. It has given them an excellent grounding in understanding tempo, rhythm and dynamics as well as giving an opportunity to respond to music in an imaginative way. I would highly recommend it for any pre-school/infant child.”(Mum)

“All three of my children have enjoyed Melody Tots. The eldest who joined aged 18 months is now 10 and plays drums and my daughter aged 8 plays the recorder. The youngest, attends with his cousin. They both enjoy the varied activities and instruments, the lively backing tracks and each has his favourite song. I am sure it helps with concentration and listening skills and is a fun start to learning music. The teacher is patient, encouraging and enthusiastic. I enjoy it as much as the children!”  (Mum)
