The Holme Valley Music Centre has been in existence since the mid 1960's. The aim of the centre is to enable young people to develop the musical skills which they gain in their instrumental lessons.
Students have the opportunity to perform in concerts, locally and nationally. We enter many musical festivals nationally and were chosen to perform at the Schools Proms, in the Royal Albert Hall, London. We also have links with Imphy Music School, France and take part in a music exchange.
As well as deriving a great deal of pleasure and enjoyment making music, the students make many new friends from other schools.
How long before my child can join?
The number of lessons required before joining the Music Centre depends on the pupil's ability, but it is our aim for pupils to be ready for music centre after a period of two terms.
How old does my child have to be?
Entry to Music Centre is based on the recommendation of their teacher. There is no age requirement only the required standard.
For how long would my child stay in each group?
On average the length of time spent in a group is two to three years. This may vary depending on the student's ability and progress.
How often do the groups/bands perform and is there a special uniform to wear?
We hold a Music Centre concert every term, enter music festivals, perform at school fetes in the Holme Valley and give various concerts throughout Kirklees.
The wind bands and string groups wear black with white shirts and music centre ties. The guitar players have special 'T'shirts.
How much practice is expected of the members of the groups?
Students are encouraged to take music home to practice when entering music festivals.
Does the Music Centre have any instruments available for loan?
The Parents Association have purchased many instruments, mainly percussion and larger instruments such as Tuba and baritone saxophone, that are too expensive for parents to purchase.
