Our usual understanding of an orchestra, which has many groups of instruments exists as the: Kirklees Youth Symphony OrchestraKYSO was re-established in September 2000 and currently attracts about 75/80 players from throughout the schools and colleges in Kirklees, as well as the University of Huddersfield. The orchestra rehearses on Wednesday evenings and generally puts on three concerts per year with the opportunity of courses and/or overseas visits as part of the annual activities. Recent concerts and competitions have taken the orchestra to Huddersfield's Town Hall and the Royal Festival Hall, London playing a wide variety of repertoire. Entry is by audition or invitation. The string players are asked to be at grade 5 or above and brass, woodwind and percussion generally at grade 7 or above. The string section of the orchestra also forms the Kirklees Schools' String Orchestra | ||||||||||||||||||
