OverviewThe Kirklees Music School not only provides tuition for individuals and small groups, but also regards making music with others as a vital part of musical education and experience. Ensembles exist which cross all barriers of age, gender, race and culture and their aim is not only to make music to a high standard, but to encourage social inclusion in a supportive and fun environment. Rehearsals happen throughout term time (see individual Music Centre newsletters for accurate rehearsal information) and groups take part in concerts (and some competitions depending on the ensembles) during the year.
The seven Music Centres throughout Kirklees provide the majority of this ensemble work and details can be found under the section on Centres. Kirklees Music School also offers several Central Ensembles which cater a) for young musicians who have reached a very high standard of playing and b) for new initiatives such as World Percussion or Folk Music ensembles. While the vast majority of the pupils who attend KMS groups also have lessons with us, the groups are also open to anyone who plays an instrument or sings.
This section will give you a brief overview of the ensembles. When a pupil is ready to start a group or to move to a different one, the teacher will usually inform you via the Practice Diary or the conductor of the group will pass on the information at Music Centre.
