KMS Pop Recitals

In the week leading up to the Christmas holiday the Kirklees Music School Pop Group delighted pupils in schools across Kirklees with their energetic and engaging performances.

The recitals traced the history of pop music from the birth of the blues and its influence on swing and early rock and roll, right through to the development of today's popular music.  The performances included such classics as In the Mood (Glenn Miller), Rock Around the Clock (Bill Haley and the Comets), Hound Dog (Elvis), Love Me Do (Beatles), Purple Rain (Jimi Hendrix), I Will Survive (Gloria Gaynor), Do They Know it's Christmas (Band Aid), Wonderwall (Oasis), Shine (Take That), Price Tag (Jesse J) and All I Want for Christmas is You (Mariah Carey).

The KMS Pop Group is a six-piece ensemble consisting of Matt Delaney (Drumkit and Vocals), Jo Rochelle (Keys and Vocals), Mick Crone (Lead Guitar), Martin Scriven (Bass Guitar), Iain Harrison (Sax and Drumkit) and Jamie O'Brien (Trumpet).

The performances were very well received in all the schools, with pupils singing along, staff participation and in a number of cases the audience on their feet dancing by the end of the show!  We hope to have the group available again the same week in 2012 and it's sure to be popular, so if you're interested in booking a performance please contact Jamie O'Brien at the KMS office.
