Developing a Shared Philosophy
In order to develop a shared philosophy amongst the teachers who bring Music to young people, it is useful if the school can undertake to do the following:
- Keep KMS staff aware of the school's music schemes, policy and activities.
- Discuss approaches to materials and activities in-line with National Curriculum priorities: for instance, review instrumental work for the inclusion of improvisation, simple compositions as well as performance and advise on musical material including music from outside the Western 'classical' tradition.
- Give clear guidance to instrumental teachers regarding assessment procedures. To enable pupils learning instruments to be assessed in-line with departmental philosophy and priorities.
