Schools' Guide

This section is provided for members of staff within schools, who are involved with the provision of music for their pupils. We hope that it will answer most of your questions but if you have any further queries please don't hesitate to get in touch with any of the team at the Music School, all of whom will be more than happy to help.

picture of a guitar lessonParticipation in music benefits the individual enormously

A great deal of research has documented clear links between learning in Music and benefits for other curriculum areas especially in Mathematics.

Music also enhances the whole life of the school through performances on one level, but more significantly, through the development of motivated, active members of the school community on another.

Music is also a great source of personal enjoyment and fulfilment and is enormously successful at developing creativity.

Our main aim

To improve levels of participation and personal performance in and through music.

Prerequisites

Music is brought to children by a team of professionals. To maximise the work of classroom music-making and specialist instrumental learning, three prerequisites are essential:

  • Develop a shared underlying philosophy about what Music offers children and how its varying activities are managed.
  • Ensure a friendly team atmosphere where school and KMS teachers both feel valued in their pursuit of the child's musical education.
  • Provide practical measures to ensure that the music curriculum can be accessed by as many children as possible with success.
